We hitched up the travel trailer and dragged it out to Sisters, OR fort the big event. The big Burb tows like a boss, other than the 6.0 being a bit underpowered on the steepest grades (foot to the floor, down to second, 4500 rpm...). The 2006+ style tow mirrors are a godsend and my new favorite thing ever. The travel trailer? Total POS... Can’t wait to sell it.
Anyone else braving the “crowds” and “horrible traffic” for some eclipse viewing?

I’d have to drive about 6 hours for totality so I’ll be staying put

I remain perpetually stunned at how horribly built campers are.

Totality is 1/4 mile from my backyard, so I’m going to sit at home.

I’ve torn a couple of campers apart, down to the trailer frame. Imagine a car built like that! It’d be kind of like the Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust.

Pretty much, yeah!

I live in the 100% totality area. Already planning on staying home and telling people to stay off my lawn.

Spent part of a summer building them. Yeah, they’re terrible.

Isn’t it amazing?! It’s all water soluble materials encased in a flimsy, poorly sealed box.

I’ll be at work. Might walk down to the river if we’re not too busy. Is it pretty crowded down there?

Leaving tomorrow morning to camp out at my sisters house. They are around the green dot in the lower left of the photo. I live just north of the totality zone, so we should be almost in the center and get about 2 minutes of darkness. I’m pulling my girl from school for the day. Depending on how this goes, I may see about going to the next one a bit further South in 2024.

Not at all. We left late last night to beat the supposed traffic and the roads were practically deserted. Anything crazy up there?

What little driving I’ve done, traffic has seemed lighter than usual. Maybe people have already reached their destinations, or aren’t driving in anticipation of terrible traffic?

Even on Friday leaving work I expected gridlock, but it was the least I’ve ever seen on a Friday evening in the Portland area. I think the media hyped up the traffic situation so much that everyone just decided to stay home.

Could be. Even Naito didn’t get the usual 3-6pm parking lot.

We shall see what happens come Monday, but I’m thinking we won’t see the predicted pandemonium.

Yep! If you get one bad bead of caulk, you’re FUBAR’d.

Every bead of caulk is bad on this turd... And the AC just crapped out. And while being towed out to Sisters, the front cap separated at the seam to the roof after I just recaulked it 3 weeks ago. Ugh. And the rubber roof needs love. And there’s dry rot in the floors. I could go on...
My next one will be an Airstream, Scamp, or something else decently built.

I want an Airstream so desperately badly!

When I have multiple children and they’re all out of diapers, I’ll revisit the RV thing. Till then, it’s hotels.

We came to the same conclusion. We’ve got two (and are done), now we’ve gotta get the little one potty trained.

Ditto. I’d be fine with more wide open roads on the way home.
